Some movies I need to try to find a watch the 1st is called In the Hive starring the great Michael Clarke Duncan, The magnificent Loretta Devine, and Vivca A. Foxx. I also have to watch The Great Divide starring Tichina Arnold, Golden Brooks, and Richard T. Jones. Both films came out in 2012. I love independent black films. Lets continue to support our artist. Spike Lee

Spike Lee is on the site Kickstarter.com to try and raise money for his new film. He is trying to raise $1,250,000 and he has until August 21, 2013 to do it. There are a lot of people criticizing him but in my opinion I think that he is being creative, smart and daring. Informative Documentary.

I just finished watching the documentary called how to make money selling drugs. I first thought it would be about glorifying some of the best drug dealers in american history. Although it does talk about those things it also talks about the price of selling drugs in our society.

The most enlightening part about the documentary was when it shows how the war on drugs is the biggest failed policy the u.s. government has. It also talks about how the truest gateway drug is really alcohol and the largest chemically altering murder is really cigarettes and how know one really wants the war on drugs to end.

Overall it was a very informative and thought provoking documentary and I think it can start a real conversation about the war on drugs, drug and alcohol addiction and how we can truly solve these issues.

Fruitvale Station is being expanded into more theaters as of Friday 7/19/2013. Some of the newest cities include Atlanta, GA , New York, NY Chicago, IL Dallas, TX and Houston, TX

Fruitvale Station is showing in 34 theaters across the country. The movie is #17 out of #20 movies in the u.s. and its making an average of $21,000/theater no other movie in the country is making close to that average.

I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to watch it yet but I will within the week.

Movie Review of Yelling to the sky

Zoe Kravitz, daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet gives an exceptional performance in the indie movie yelling to the sky.  The movie came out in 2011 but i did not the movie until earlier this year. The movie is about Sweetness O'hara a young biracial girl in high school who has an extremely broken family. He mother has mental issues and her father is an abusive alcoholic. Sweetness is first bullied in school and after a while she begins to try to fit in with the same girls who bullied her while her family falls apart and tries to get back together.

Once again everyone in the movie was exception. I never new Zoe Kravitz was such an exceptional actress but it shouldn't be a surprise considering who her parents are.

Gabourey Sidibe most notably from Precious gives a brief but great performance. I guess the Kravitz family loves working with Gabourey Sidibe since Zoe's father was the nurse in Precious

I have never seen anything with Antonique Smith who plays Sweetness older sister Katherine O'hara but Antonique's performance really makes you believe that her and Zoe are really blood sisters. I would love to continue to see more from Antonique Smith

Jason Clarke who plays Sweetness father is another actor that I have never really paid attention too but he also gives a wonderful performance as an abusive alcoholic father who at first doesn't seem like he knows how to love his family but after the death of his brother he starts to have a change of heart and wants to begin to show his family that he loves them.

Once again overall Yelling to the Sky is a wonderful movie that I have seen at least 3 times.  I hope Hollywood can make more independent films that tell great stories with people of color.

The other thing I love about the film is that it did not focus on race at all it just told a great story and the cast happen to have people of color in it.

Go see the movie if you haven't already.
